Welcome to another edition of ‘What’s Up Wednesday‘, where I join forces with other bloggers to share random/interesting/boring/crazy/fun stuff that is up with us today!
What We’re Eating This Week…
If you didn’t see my post last week, you missed out on the news that Matt has joined the Paleo crowd and trying to be more conscientious about what he eats.
I’ve never spoke those words about myself in my life (and truth be told, I should definitely be a healthier eater, while my husband already IS a healthy eater) and don’t plan to start now, so that makes dinners a little tough. But lunch?
I eat the same thing every day for lunch. And sometimes dinner. And I friggin’ love it!
The concoction on the left is quinoa and brown rice, (these are at all grocery stores, but I got mine at Costco because there were 6 in a package – it is sooooo good), shredded rotisserie chicken, Organic Jack’s salsa that comes in a tub from Costco and sour cream. It is my favorite thing right now and SOOO yummy (and quick to make)!
The salad is one I found from one of my favorite bloggers – Beth at Seersuckle & Saddles. You throw mixed greens, lemon juice, a little extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper in a bag, shake it up, then serve it with some shaved parmesan. Also simple, quick and yummy!
What I’m Reminiscing About…
I just looked at my TimeHop app a few minutes ago and my first live video of me giving a tutorial on LipSense was on there. Seems like nothing has changed in a year – I’m still a fool on live videos!
But as of January 17, I officially have been a LipSense distributor for a year! I’m contemplating renewing my license or not. Not because my love for it has faded. It most certainly hasn’t and I still love the colors (and makeup) as much as I did when I first tried it). I’ve got my foot in so many different puddles right now, though. I need to try and reel it in and sadly, if I have to decide what is going, it might be that.
But we shall see! LipSense sells itself so I don’t have to much work and I won’t plaster it across social media like I have the last year. You know I sell it, you know it’s glorrrrious… and you know how to find me! 🙂
What I’m Loving…
I’ve raved to my sister about this, but when we moved to Chicago, I was super worried about finding things to do with the kids. Not because there aren’t a million things for kids to do, but how would I find out about them (when my list of friends was slim ((or none)).
Then I heard about this app called Pearachute – it tells you all of the fun activities going on in your city every day. You can buy credits (we are on a 4-credit plan) and then when you want to go to a class or an activity on the app, you click drop in, and voila! You’re signed up and don’t pay when you arrive! If I didn’t have the Parachute app, Tess wouldn’t have attended her first dance class this morning… that she absolutely loved and will be attending again!
They currently only have options for Chicago, Dallas, KC, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. but if you live in those areas, have kids, need ideas to keep them entertained, I HIGHLY recommend!!!
What We’ve Been Up To…
I feel like it has taken us all of January to get back into the groove of school, which is absurd. But every morning in a struggle to get my kids bundled up and out the door. I’d like to blame it on poor parenting, but I can’t throw myself under the bus this time because it ain’t me!
Besides that, we’ve been watching as much K-State basketball as we can get up here… we are not bandwagon’ers that only watch when we are good at a sport, but it’s been fun the last few weeks because that Cats have been pretty awesome!
What I’m Dreading…
Maybe another reason I may not be selling LipSense this year is because I don’t want to worry about taxes. I don’t want to play any extra part in being a financial burden to this family and if I have to dish out dough because of taxes this year, my LipSense selling days are numbered! And that is absolutely on me.
What I’m Working On…
As well as trying to get our summer plans mapped out. I do realize that summer is still months away (and my kids don’t finish school until June 15, I think) but in the matter of a few weeks, our summer got EXPONENTIALLY FULL!
Matt’s cousin Adam got engaged and will be getting married in Colorado on August 4. And then his brother, Michael, got engaged and is doing a destination wedding to the Bahamas two weeks before that. And you know what? We are going to both! Because that’s what you do for family! You send your kids to their grandparents and go on a Bahaman vacation, then you spend two weeks with your parents and really get them sick and tired of you and your kids, and then you drive 10 hours to Pagosa Springs, Colorado and then turn back around and drive 20 hours back to Chicago. With three children.
If I ever hear someone say that they can’t do trips because they “don’t feel like it”, you just think about how we are going to spend more than 30 hours in the car with our children, driving through what most would consider the most boring parts of America (God love you Iowa, Nebraska, western Kansas…) and we aren’t going to think twice about it. Because that’s what you do for family.
What I’m Excited About…
The kids don’t have school this Friday so we decided to head to Kansas City for the weekend! We get to be there for my niece’s birthday party (a month later – luckily she doesn’t know that nor does she care), we get to see friends… and friends new houses that I will be drooling over. My parents are coming over Friday so we will see them as well as my brother, sister-in-law and nephew. And I can’t wait! The seven-hour car ride is worth it!
What I’m Watching/Reading…
Let’s be real. I never read.
That’s a goal for 2019.
When I actually sit down at night, here’s what I’m watching…
I really, really like this show! I’m not sure if it’s just because I’m a huge Sarah Jessica Parker fan, but I think it’s really good! And then Lowell from Wings is just a funny dude… The second season just started up and the first season wasn’t uber long so you have time to catch up!
Speaking of catching up, we are finally 100 percent caught up with This Is Us. Another show I’m head-over-heels for. Matt watches because he can’t NOT watch, but I think he would have preferred to not get started on it. He likes it when it has some funny moments and lately, those have been hard to come by. And Sunday will basically be TEARS ALL NIGHT LONG. #RIPJackPearson
I also have started watching The Crown on Netflix. I’m a royal family junkie and I find this really interesting!
What I’m Listening To…
I remember when I was growing up how we would get WGN news out of Chicago – which is partially why my Papps was a huge Cubs fan. It was either the Cubs on WGN or the Braves on TBS. So WGN is just that station that you don’t seem to forget.
Fast-forward to my adult years and I started listening to NPR when I was in Arkansas – I felt that was the only way I was going to get any news in my life was if I listened to it.
Now… I have moved to WGN radio. And that’s basically all I listen to! It’s informative, but the hosts make me laugh constantly. And sometimes, that’s just what you need! My favorites are Bill and Wendy – I find myself laughing every time I listen to them! You can see their studio off of Michigan Avenue, right by the river. Someday, I’m going down there and just going to watch the show and stare at them. 🙂
So while this question will be answered with a band or a new song… my response? Talk radio.
What I’m Wearing…
Current favorite kicks are my New Balance tennis shoes from JCrew. They are probably the most expensive shoe in my closet, which means I have to wear them to be OK with that!
I also am going to talk about these pants again … and I realize that I may talk about them ALL of the time, but I’m just saying… they are THAT fabulous!
They are the comfiest darn things I own, they are joggers, which I love.. and they go with everything comfy/casual which is basically my wardrobe summed up in two words and a hyphenate. They are $39 from Nordstrom, but the best $39 you will ever spend!
What I’m Doing this Weekend…
Like I mentioned above, we are headed to KC for the weekend to see family and friends and just to get away from the city for a little bit. I realize we are leaving one city for another… but it’s soooo different. Once you get about 15 minutes outside of Chicago, it’s a totally different world. It’s wide-open spaces (cue the Dixie Chicks) and it feels so great!
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month…
We have another busy month ahead of us and lots to look forward to!
Matt and Sloane are going to a Valentine’s Dance at school next Friday so we have to get ready for that. They will have Valentine’s parties as well so tack that on. At the end of the month, my parents are coming up and we are celebrating Tess turning two. Which should make me cry, but I feel like she is already well into “2 years old mode” and years two and three are known to be rough for my kids, so … I’m pumped about that! BUT to celebrate that, we are doing a double birthday with her cousin Georgia, who turns three just after Tess turns two. Thank you, Jen, for letting us steal a little of G’s thunder! 🙂
What Else is New…
This isn’t new and actually has already happened, but I didn’t mention much about this. Matt took me to see Hamilton last Friday here in Chicago. TO be honest, I knew nothing about the show, except that it was supposedly amazing, the music was legit and I had to see it.
Truth be told, I think it was one of those Christmas gifts for Matt that was a 2-for-1: he gets them for me, but he’s really the one that wanted to see it! 😂 Hey… now that I think about it… he got me the Apple AirPods that he uses as well. What the heck?!
Anywho, the show was amazing. The actors were fantastic. The music was brilliant. And I’m glad we got to go! And if I had time to read, I would probably go read about Alexander Hamilton!
WHEW… that’s all friends!
