Tis the Season… to try and stay warm when it’s UBER cold outside! I’m not sure I’ll ever claim to be a true Northerner. I leave that title to those that haven’t given up and moved south. But I did hack it for 4.5 years in Minnesota through some VERY, VERY COLD winters. And though I’m now in Chicago, where it definitely does not get to 50 below consecutively for days upon days, it still gets pretty chilly.
They don’t call it the Windy City for nothing (though that term has nothing to do with the breeze… did you know that?)!
What I have learned is this… you need a really good coat, preferably one that is a little longer, past your bum to keep the tops of your legs warm (because aren’t we all just slipping through life with leggings on?!). You need gloves that actually keep your fingers warm, not the $5 cheap-o pair.
Scarves are nice if your coat doesn’t come up high enough. But to me, a scarf is really just about adding a cute accessory to your outfit.
And you need a good hat. And this can serve as double-duty. It can be warm, as well as a fun accessory! So today, I’m giving you five fun hat options that are both warm and eye-catching!
This checks THREE categories: cute, warm AND soft! Chenille is so popular again this season and for good reason. It feels and looks amazing! This hat is on sale at Express right now for $18 – definitely a great option!
Last Thanksgiving, my mom and I took the train to Michigan Avenue and walked to Topshop, just so I could pick grab a new hat … that was almost identical to this one. And I wore it ALL the time. It was warm and simple, with a fun pop of color in the pom!
Maybe you don’t love the pom pom look. That’s completely fine! It’s not for everyone (but if you don’t like it because you think you look silly, you are wrong, get a hat with a pom pom on it and live a little!). This Free People hat is a great option because the print is adorable and still has the necessary warmth needed!
Gap always has fun hat and scarves this time of year and they did not disappoint in 2018! I love the soft colors (as well as the softness of the hat itself) in this hat as well as the metallic yarn woven throughout!
Have I made you excited for cold weather yet? Or made you despise it less?! Get yourself a good hat and all will be right in the world, my friend!
